Hotdog Karaoke Stills

hotdog karaoke stills, 2019

I created karaoke "stills" with lyrics by the '70s Filipino disco sensation Hotdog and photographs I took in small towns named Manila in the United States. Hotdog was famous for popularizing the musical genre called Manila Sound, which has roots in Spanish culture and the influence of American GIs who would visit dance clubs in the Philippines, thus many of the songs were a mix of English and Tagalog*. "Hinahanap-hanap kita, Manila" means "I'm looking for you, Manila."
